Ever wonder what happens to all the stuff we throw away? Check out this cool infographic from Bethenny Schaffer at Business Degree. Apparently, it doesn’t all go where we think. That’s why our cooperative is committed to recycling waste oil and turning it into fuel, offsetting fossil fuel use, reducing carbon emissions, and keeping grease out of gardens and oceans. The alternative is just too scary.

What’s one of the nicest parts about being part of a co-op? People know that we’re here to help! So when a friend of ours makes an exciting move from Ithaca to California, we say “Sure, we’ll help you sell your greasecar kit!” So, yes, there’s a greasecar kit for sale. The seller is asking $1,200 for this kit that has never been used. Give us a holler if you’d like us to hook you and your Mercedes sedan up to the awesomely clean and efficient world of straight vegetable oil fuel!

As a community scale biodiesel cooperative we rely a lot on advice and support from similar businesses in the industry. Some biodiesel companies are worker owned, some are consumer owned, some are neither, some are large scale, some are small scale, all of them are paving the way for a renewable fuel. Among these companies we’ve been very impressed with Piedmont Biofuels in Pittsboro, North Carolina. Not only are they running a smooth operation, but their customer service is impecable and we’ve had very helpful and friendly conversations with their guy who knows a lot about biodiesel and lunch. They’ve also made great strides to improve the production process by using enzymes to cut down on required chemicals. We hope to live up to Piedmont Biofuels’ standards at our new facility. Thanks for giving grease a good name!

At a recent drive-in viewing of 21 Jump Street, we were pleased to learn that the cool kids prefer bikes to Mustangs, friendship matters, and Johnny Depp is still the most radical undercover cop any high school could ask for. The cool kids are so cool, in fact, that they use biodiesel! We were impressed by the overall message of environmental stewardship that prevailed throughout the film. Young people care about the environment in a way that might be more inherent than experienced by previous generations, and it gives us faith that today’s high schoolers will soon be riding the tide of alternative energy.

With Dave Franco leading the veggie oil movement, how can we go wrong?

We made it in the paper again! Tompkins Weekly included us in an article about the first Cayuga LION event. The shindig was meant to introduce local business owners to local investors, so it was very fitting that we present our current efforts to upgrade equipment and increase production.
