The shindig was meant to introduce local business owners to local investors, so it was very fitting that we present our current efforts to upgrade equipment and increase production. If you’ve been waiting for an opportunity to learn more about how to invest your capital in local enterprise, towards your own financial gain and towards the betterment of your community, NOW’S YOUR CHANCE! Professional investment advisors will be presenting about a Local Investing Opportunity Network, or LION tomorrow, which enables individuals such as yourself to vote local with your dollars.

The local chapter, Cayuga LION, will be having its first event tomorrow, Tuesday the 24th, at 5:30pm at La Tourelle Spa & Resort, on South Rt. 96b, and they are asking for a $7 entry fee. Here are driving/biking directions. The event is hosted by Sustainable Tompkins.

Ithaca Biodiesel Cooperative, along with Black Oak Wind Farm, and Swidjit, have been invited to very briefly present a little information on who we are to the attendees. What happens after that we will keep our fingers crossed for, as we work towards a new facility!

The LION is a Local Investment Opportunity Network meant to introduce local business owners and investors. As you all know, we’re currently fundraising for our new equipment and facility, so this meeting couldn’t come at a better time. We’re very excited to be celebrating Earth Day at two locations that have a mission of bringing people together in responsible and creative ways. First come tothe Earth Day Weekend mini-fest at Fire on the Water Studios, 317 Taughannock Blvd, Ithaca on Saturday, April 21. Then on Sunday, April 22, celebrate Earth Day at the Ithaca Farmers’ Market, Steamboat Landing, Ithaca.

Come on out to tip your hat to local businesses, artists, and friends who care about our planet. Do something nice for your mother!

It’s A Gas. No, A Diesel. It’s A Biodiesel!

As exciting as that would be, we’re not talking about Superman. The real news is about the first commerical aircraft in all of Australia to be powered by waste cooking oil. Qantas, an Australian airline company, used waste cooking oil refined in Houston to make a biofuel blend for an airliner.

The country is looking for ways to use existing infrastructure to prodcue biodiesel for aviation. While it’s unclear whether the Qantas plane was flying on manufactured biodiesel or just a blend of conventional jet fuel and waste cooking oil, it’s a pretty big deal. We find it especially cool that they’re not interested in using food crops for fuel. Maybe someday we’ll have the honor of fueling our local airport with our biodiesel.

Our price of biodiesel has historically been similar to petroleum diesel, sometimes even cheaper! We’ll be sure to keep our prices competitive and affordable for you, especially if you purchase a membership in the cooperative. It’s the least we can do.
